Computing suite boosts school's curriculum

Computing suite boosts school's curriculum

Posted: 23rd September 2019

A brand-new computing suite has given the education of young children in Roydon a boost.

Over the summer, a computing suite was installed at Roydon Primary Academy.

Until now, pupils from Roydon have been taking their computing lessons at specialist technology school BMAT STEM Academy to cover the curriculum.

Now, with a dedicated suite with 20 new computers, the school is able to offer the computing curriculum – and more – inhouse.

The addition is part of a £1.8million investment made by BMAT into the fabric of its school buildings over the summer.

Headteacher Michael Clark said: “It is wonderful to have a tool Roydon has never had before. We have had to take our children to fellow BMAT school BMAT STEM for their computing lessons in the past; we were fortunate to have that link within the Trust, but to have our own facilities will massively help our pupils. We have gone from nothing to everything we need.

“The world they are growing into is all about computing, so these are very important lessons for them.

“It is amazing. The children are really happy.”

Every week, pupils will spend an hour in the computing suite learning the subject. The room – formerly an underused break-out space - is also being used as another tool to support other subjects, such as timetables testing, history and geography research, publishing and coding club.
