Speak out, stay safe.

That was the message given to pupils at Roydon Primary Academy by the NSPCC.

The charity, which visits the school each year, introduced pupils to Buddy, a friendly green speech bubble which says children should be able to speak out to someone they are worried or unhappy.

Year 5 and 6 took part in Speak Out, Stay Safe workshops where they discussed the reasons children may feel sad, worried or anxious and when they may need someone to talk to.

Headteacher Michael Clark said: “The NSPCC explained the different types of abuse in a simple, age appropriate way, so children can recognise when something is not right.

“We always encourage children to talk to trusted adults about anything that is worrying them or about their concerns. The NSPCC use Buddy to do this is. It is important for children to hear this from someone else as well to show the importance of speaking out and staying safe.”
