PSHE
At Roydon, PSHE a vital part of our curriculum. It helps children grow into confident, healthy, and responsible individuals, equipped with the life skills they need now and in the future.
Through PSHE, pupils learn how to:
- Communicate effectively
- Make informed decisions
- Solve problems
- Understand and manage emotions
- Build positive relationships
- Stay safe in the real and digital world
We place a strong emphasis on mental health and emotional wellbeing, helping children to recognise their feelings, build resilience, and understand how to seek help when they need it. These lessons are more important than ever in today’s fast-paced and often challenging world.
PSHE also covers important topics like physical health, personal safety, respectful relationships, and financial education, giving pupils the knowledge and confidence to make safe, healthy, and informed choices.
Our Approach: 1Decision
At Roydon, we use the 1Decision PSHE programme, a highly interactive and engaging platform built around short film clips with alternative endings. These videos encourage children to think critically about different scenarios and consider the consequences of their decisions.
1decision promotes inclusivity, empathy, and understanding. It helps children see what connects us as people, across different cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs, fostering respect and compassion in every classroom.
Alongside the videos, pupils use workbooks and guided discussions in a safe, supportive environment to explore a wide range of real-life topics. This helps them develop the vocabulary, confidence, and judgement they need to navigate challenges and make positive choices.
