Early Reading

Roydon Primary academy makes the teaching of early reading a priorty for every pupil.  

From the first day in Rabbit class, pupils are exposed to the teaching of phonics (a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps children hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language).

Through reading, pupils begin to understand the world. Through reading, pupils begin to have a greater understanding about topics that interest them; and through reading, pupils create a path towards better understanding and better actions to take in the future.

In summary, being able to read fluently and confidently is the key to success.
